Setelah beberapa kali tarik ulur, akhirnya event MotoGP India 2024 yang direncanakan akhir September 2024 resmi dibatalkan.
Sebagai gantinya, posisi kosong MotoGP India 2024 akan diisi oleh MotoGP Kazakhstan 2024 yang sebelumnya sempat diumumkan ditunda karena bencana banjir.
Pembatalan MotoGP India 2024 tak lain lantaran beberapa pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh promotor setempat.
Promotor dikabarkan mengalami kegagalan pembayaran uang kepada sejumlah vendor, yang mendukung penyelenggaraan Grand Prix.
Tak terkecuali Dorna Sports, di mana promotor dikabarkan gagal melakukan pembayaran uang komitmen tepat waktu.
Namun India bukannya akan 100 persen langsung hilang dari kalender, dan kemudian diblokir dari gelaran MotoGP ke depannya.
Dorna dan promotor GP India sebenarnya mencapai kesepakatan, untuk tetap mencoba mempertahankan posisinya sebagai salah satu tuan rumah MotoGP.
Kedua belah pihak sepakat untuk mengembalikan balapan di Buddh International Circuit tersebut pada awal 2025 mendatang.
India pun berpeluang untuk menjadi salah satu seri awal pada gelaran MotoGP 2025 mendatang, yang direncanakan digelar bulan Maret mendatang.
Sejak pertama kali digelar musim 2023 lalu, balapan di India memang menjadi salah satu seri paling sulit untuk digelar.
Cukup banyak masalah yang terjadi sebelum penyelenggaraan balapan yang sebenarnya disambut baik masyarakat India tersebut.
Dari masalah visa, di mana banyak pembalap dan kru tidak kunjung mendapat izin untuk bisa masuk ke India sehingga mereka harus menunda penerbangannya.
Masalah ini ancamannya sangat serius, karena balapan bisa saja batal jika sebagian kru dan pembalap tidak bisa hadir ke sana.
Selain itu sempat ada masalah juga di mana pemerintah setempat meminta detail kontrak pembalap dan timnya.
Kabarnya mereka berniat menarik pajak dari para pembalap, namun pada akhirnya masalah tersebut dapat diselesaikan.
Sedangkan Kazakhstan yang ditunda akibat banjir, diprediksi akan jauh lebih siap untuk menggelar balapan pada bulan September mendatang.
